Friend vs Therapist

March 14, 2019

A question we sometimes get from people who have never tried psychotherapy or might not understand it is: “How is working with a psychotherapist different than talking to a friend?” While healthy friendships often mean a give-and-take of emotional support, its dramatically different than talking to a therapist. Psychotherapy offers a space that is all about you, including your therapist who has the experience and training to care for you in the ways you most need it.

In this week’s episode of Therapy 101, Dr. Charlotte Howard talks about these things and the valuable support that therapists can provide, and some more of benefits you can look forward to in your future relationship with your therapist.
