Friend vs Therapist

A question we sometimes get from people who have never tried psychotherapy or might not understand it is: “How is working with a psychotherapist different than talking to a friend?” While healthy friendships often mean a give-and-take of emotional support, its dramatically different than talking to a therapist. Psychotherapy offers a space that is all about you, including your therapist who has the experience and training to care for you in the ways you most need it.
