Licensed Professional Counselor

Hi there!

My name is Sofia Hernandez-Arenas, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor here at Deep Eddy Psychotherapy. I wanted to share a bit about myself and how I approach the work I do to help you decide if we might be a good fit! I know it might feel overwhelming in the beginning to try to find someone to connect with, so please feel free to take your time!

My approach to therapy:

I personally do not take the “traditional” therapy model. For me, that means you won’t be lying on a sofa, while I incessantly ask, “and how does that make you feel?” while I write notes (unless you really want to!) I like to approach therapy through a collaborative dialogic practice approach of you and I working together to reach the goals you would like to accomplish. If something isn’t working or is, please let me know so we can either adjust what we are doing or continue on our journey together. I am here to help and support you in this chapter of your life however that looks. I believe that our therapeutic relationship is built on trust, honesty, in a place where you feel safe in a judgement free space. I strive to make sure that I can make this process as painless as possible in a space where you can feel safe enough to be your authentic self whatever/however that looks for you. And if you don’t know what that is, I will also be here to help you along that journey. I believe that our lives are woven into the different areas where we are present, so if you feel like your life is” jumbled” that’s okay! I am here to help you through that. I believe there is a reason for everything, and I don’t know if I believe in coincidences. Therefore, I truly am honored that you are reading this and hope that we can have a chat soon!

My Background

I have lived in Texas for my entire life and absolutely love it! While my husband was in the Marine Corps, I was in Austin for my undergrad and graduate school. Then after grad school I moved to the outskirts of Houston for the past 2 years and have finally moved back to the area. I am the oldest of 5 and come from a super small town about 30 minutes away from Uvalde.

In our sessions together, you may meet some of my fur children – so please excuse me while I silent my mic and tell them to go play somewhere else haha!

Most evenings you will find me in my pjs watching the horror movies or watching SVU on repeat. I enjoy spending time with my husband and my furbies when I have down time. When I’m not spending time with them, I am either out for walk listening to my favorite podcasts or doing yoga.
