My Background

I majored in Psychology at Cortland St. SUNY, before moving to Texas to take a job  at the Salesmanship Club Youth Camp (Residential treatment) as a Counselor. During my 13 years here, I became a Supervisor (10 years) and earned my Masters Degree in Counseling from Texas A&M Commerce. I completed my practicum and internship in private practice under Dr. Wade French, while continuing my work in Residential treatment. In both places, I was working with youth and young adults, occasionally adults in Private practice with issues related to abuse, neglect, drug and alcohol use, legal, some criminal issues, probation, and  family and peer relations. I spent 2 years following supervision doing part time work in private practice with Dr. French. Following the closure of the camp, I chose to go into education as a Special Education Counselor working with Elementary to High School aged children diagnosed with an Emotional Disability or Autism. I provided Counseling services to students with a variety of school related issues, academic, peer, social, and emotional. I did this, until recently, for 20 years in Special Education. I had lived and worked in East Texas for 32 years before recently relocating to Austin. I have enjoyed working with and supporting young people in there journey through both the good and the bad that they have experienced. As a youth, I had many supportive people around me to help guide me through these moments, and have found my experiences to be helpful in the work that I do with people. These moments, good or bad are part of our journey, not the journey. In my spare time I have coached a number of youth sports both girls and boys, and spent about 8 of those years coaching Womens Travel Softball. I look forward to working with a diverse population of people, and sharing both my knowledge and skills to help/support with the problems/concerns that may be keeping you from moving forward to the life you desire.
