…And you become a Gardener without intending Planting a seed of permission…
The Audacity — by Laurel Trautwein
Finalist for Midwives of the Soul community submissions for September 2022
Personal Story
Allow me to be your gardener, to plant seeds of permission alongside you. For those of you who were woken up on a Sunday morning only to be dragged to a church where the sermon closeted those in question, and your coming out somehow offended the twice-divorced preacher. For those of you who withstood a constant barrage of not having the space to feel and think for yourself as anything remotely negative. For you who have never been fully satiated with explanations like “everything happens for a reason,” “it could be worse” or my personal favorite, “the Lord never gives you more than you can handle.” If you’ve ever found yourself in a place where you have questioned your faith, questioned whether there is a God at all, or simply know this is not the path for you, I can help guide you into the secular world beyond.
Professional Experience/Qualifications
For over ten years, I have refined the services I provide to include what I’m most passionate about: trauma, perfectionism, first Generation (or second, third), Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Religious Trauma, Spiritual Abuse, and Generational. Trauma cycles ending and the alienation that often coincides with that. My education includes special training in communication styles, coping, and assorted therapeutic philosophies. Highlights of those experiences primarily circumvent physical manifestations of anxiety, anger, and trauma. I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR). My heart and soul belong to Narrative Therapy, which is rooted in Post Modernism. What discerns this from other therapeutic approaches is the understanding that you know yourself better than I do. To accentuate that I’m not just an ally, but a well-informed ally. I am mentored by a Global Education Institute (GEI) Certified World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) member, and gender-affirming services, including advocating for surgical preparedness for those 18 and older..
Personal Philosophy:
We all have masks we wear; they allow us to fulfill roles and expectations imposed on us. Some of those roles are external, others internal. My ambition is to liberate you from your mask and grant a seed of permission to step into not knowing yourself. In doing this, we can unearth and name the uneasiness that you feel… that feeling, the restlessness, listless, mundanity that has become your day-to-day. I warmly invite you to a safe, judgment-free space where you can heal from your wounds, question who you are, to encourage you to embrace your soul self.
