My Therapeutic Approach

After going through my own life struggles, I found healing through mind/body therapy. It helped me to discover internal resources and transform pain into strength. I value honesty, humor, and kindness and try to weave these into our therapeutic interaction at every opportunity. My priority is to create a therapeutic environment in which clients feel comfortable and accepted. I am here to support your desire to feel better and together we will tend to the root causes of whatever is bringing you to therapy. I’m also a Registered Dance/Movement Therapist, which means that I pay attention to the whole person- mind/body/spirit. I am most passionate about empowering clients to find the tools within themselves to work towards achieving emotional balance for the rest of their lives.

What therapy with me might be like

In session, we will take time to “be with”emotional discomfort which is much more manageable with support from an unbiased person that cares about your growth and has the tools to help! I hope to create space for your unique process of expression via non-judgement, while simultaneously helping you to identify coping tools that are already in your body. While talking, I will periodically bring our awareness to how the feelings feel in the body and also take note of movement patterns and gestures that appear to be comforting to you. Deeply listening and tending to the body can be an efficient way to increase self-awareness & discover solutions. I also have experience in art therapy, and I use a variety of techniques and approaches depending on the needs of the individual or family.

My Background

I was born in Houston and am proud to be serving the community that has supported me throughout my life. In the middle of grad school at HBU, I decided to live in Peru for a year which solidified my love of Spanish, good food, and traveling. Shortly after returning to Houston I discovered something called “Ecstatic Dance”, which brought me to seek out and discover Dance/Movement Therapy (adta.org). I have been privileged to work with individuals and families at St. Joseph Medical Center, DePelchin Children’s Center, and The Harris Center. I absolutely love what I get to do and am thrilled to continue work therapeutically within my community.

I am a kid at heart- I love to dance, sing, and play the day away. I adore being outside. Music and color are two things I cannot live without. I enjoy cooking, gardening, watching movies, reading, and making my daughter laugh. I value learning above all else and am constantly fascinated by all human beings.
