Hello!

The task of finding a new therapist can be difficult and overwhelming. Thank you for considering me as your therapist, and I appreciate the opportunity to walk alongside you in your personal journey. This bio will help you understand my therapeutic approach to assess whether we could be a good fit.

Practice Philosophy

My therapy style is two people coming together, one with professional training and the other with a need for help to deal with life’s stressors. I take a very collaborative approach, and it is important to me that you feel comfortable to give feedback to me as needed.  My primary types of therapy are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused, Multicultural, and Strengths-Based, although I pull from many areas depending on my client’s needs. This means we will focus on thought and behavior patterns, and bolstering and using your inherent strengths to tackle life’s challenges. I also love to recommend books, podcasts, mindfulness, grounding techniques, tv shows, movies, and music to assist in our therapeutic process as well. An additional piece that I take into my sessions as a social worker is an awareness of inherent privileges I have, and they way macro systems of inequality affect mental health and well being as well.

Specialties

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over a decade of experience working with Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, Self Esteem problems, Domestic and Sexual Abuse, Schizophrenia, and other major mental health challenges. My client population is 18 and older and I have extensive individual and group experience working with adults.  I am particularly passionate about working with adults that have depression and anxiety, 18-25 year olds, people who have experienced religious trauma, those in the LGBTQIA+ communities, and those in the Poly or Kink communities.

Background

I was born in Maryland, but have lived in Texas since age 5, so I consider myself a lifelong Texan. I started my early life in the Austin area, then went to Denton (DFW area) to complete an undergraduate degree in Psychology at University of North Texas and then a Master’s of Science in Social Work at University of Texas at Arlington. I went on to work in a variety of service locations such as non-profits, mental health and medical hospitals, and private practice. I believe everyone has the capacity for change and I look forward to working with you.  Some of my favorite hobby areas are swing dancing, singing in choir, international travel, new food experiences, movies, live theater, opera, musicals, cooking, gaming, and renaissance festivals.                        Â
